“Medicine is my profession, Torah is my compass, both guide me in serving my patients, my community, and my family.”
Dr Anton Meyberg, a specialist physician and pulmonologist, has built a career defined by both clinical excellence and public service. Based in Johannesburg, he works in private practice and serves as an ICU physician and intensivist at Linksfield Clinic.
Anton became a familiar and trusted voice during the COVID-19 pandemic, sharing his expertise through weekly podcasts and public education initiatives. At a time when misinformation was rampant, he brought clarity, accuracy, and reassurance to thousands of listeners.
His clinical interests include the treatment of a wide range of respiratory conditions, from asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and emphysema, to lung cancer and complex infections such as tuberculosis.
In recent years, Dr Meyberg has turned his attention to an urgent and growing concern: vaping among teenagers. Drawing on extensive research, he has developed a compelling and thought-provoking presentation on the health risks associated with vaping, which he now delivers to high schools across the country.
Beyond his medical practice, Anton is a religiously observant Jew, deeply committed to the learning of Torah. He plays an active role in his community, leading services and sounding the shofar each year during the High Holidays. His life reflects a balance between professional dedication and spiritual engagement.
Anton is married to Nikki, and together they are the proud parents of three wonderful children. His dedication to family, faith, and community, alongside his tireless work in medicine and public education has made him a respected and admired figure in both the medical world and the Jewish community.
“I attended King David Victory Park from 1983-1994 and I believe the school played a pivotal role in shaping who I am.
The school's emphasis on academic excellence, empathy, and community service instilled a passion for helping others and prepared me for a career in medicine. Through extracurricular activities and volunteer opportunities, I developed essential skills like leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving. The supportive environment and mentors guided me towards healthcare, providing a strong foundation for my future endeavours"
