After leaving school, Bernard achieved a 3-year diploma in microbiology from the Johannesburg Technikon. He then went on to achieve a BSc degree in Microbiology and Botany at Rhodes University, followed by B.Pharm degree, also from Rhodes University.
Whilst working as a pharmacist for the Krok brothers for 12 years, he achieved a Honours BSc in Psychology from UNISA. He then married and moved to London, where he has worked as a science technician at a high school for 22 years.
During this time he has completed a MSc in legal and forensic Psychology at Leicester University by correspondence, as well as achieving a PhD by correspondence from University of Western Cape pharmacy department. His doctorate degree investigated the brain laterality of pharmacists to place them in their ideal work environment. The title is " A reductionistic epistemology utilising brain laterality which investigate pharmacist's ideal interactive work environment."
He is currently working on getting into another doctorate degree investigating findings from this first doctorate, which he believes could revolutionise psychology.
“At school I achieved rugby colours. Mr Voster taught me Afrikaans, and his dress and mannerism influenced my epistemology. I can remember using a slide rule to start my scientific ventures and now we use computers! Our maths teacher wore metal tip shoes and you could hear him walking down the corridor and our geography teacher insisted on teaching all about Vietnam only!
