Evan Bedil is a Managing Director and the Global Head of Healthcare at Marathon Asset Management, an asset manager with $24 billion in capital under management.
Evan began his professional journey after graduating from Wits Medical School, followed by an early role at Investec in Johannesburg. He then left South Africa for the USA and received an MBA majoring in Finance and Corporate Strategy from the Ross Business School at the University of Michigan. This was followed by Biotech Equity research positions at Morgan Stanley in both San Francisco and New York before he was headhunted by Marathon.
Today he works at Marathon’s global headquarters in New York City and leads a team in New York and London that invests in healthcare companies throughout the world by utilizing a variety of financial structures including senior secured term loans, mezzanine debt, royalty financings, royalty acquisitions, convertible debt and preferred equity.
Since 2021, Evan has sat on the Board of Kaléo, a privately held pharmaceutical company based in Richmond, Virginia. Kaléo markets a differentiated auto-injector for allergic patients to prevent anaphylaxis and has a division that designs and manufactures medical countermeasure products for the US Department of Defense, BARDA, NATO and militaries of countries allied with the US.
Evan was previously an Observer on the Board of Parnell Pharmaceuticals Holdings, a Sydney, Australia-headquartered fully integrated pharmaceutical company focused on developing, manufacturing and commercializing innovative animal and human health solutions.
Despite his heavy work commitments, Evan cherishes his time spent with his family, continues to support Liverpool Football Club and has an interest in contemporary art.
Evan would love to meet with any former or current King David students who happen to find themselves in New York.
“I reflect fondly and with gratitude on my time at King David High School, Linksfield. I remain in close touch with many of my follow Davidians, many of whom are spread around the world. I believe that not only the excellence in academics, the high calibre of teachers and students, but also the strong sense of community and the school’s mission, including its care and compassion, contributed to my strong grounding as well as my love for Israel.
My Latin teacher of four years, “Doc” Thomas left an indelible mark. In a very small class, she taught her students how to think critically, regardless of the subject matter. Mr. Wolf, too, will always be remembered for his strong, yet fair and reasonable, leadership. It would be hard to find such a school anywhere else in the world”
