Joshua Kadish obtained his B.Com., LL.B. (with distinction) and LL.M. degrees at the University of Witwatersrand. He is an admitted attorney of the High Court and was also inducted to the prestigious Companies Tribunal, Chaired by Judge Dennis Davis in December 2022 as its youngest-ever member. As a member of the Tribunal, he has written various decisions forming part of our country’s jurisprudence and has assisted with finding fast and effective solutions to corporate disputes. He is also a published legal author with his academic writings notably featuring in the prestigious Journal of Corporate and Commercial Law & Practice.
Joshua practised corporate & commercial law at one of RSA’s major law firms and advised on some of RSA’s most prominent mergers & acquisitions during his 7 years of practice. Joshua is well recognised as a leading contributor in the fields of corporate and commercial law in South Africa and is a 4th Generation Attorney. His great-grandfather was a Judge and his grandfather is the well-distinguished senior advocate, Adv Michael Kuper SC.
In 2021 Joshua made the difficult decision to leave the legal fraternity and follow his entrepreneurial passion to pursue a vision of bringing fast, seamless funding to the forgotten SMMEs in South Africa. Joshua left legal practice and co-founded Sourcefin in May 2021, and established a market-leading SMME financier which has to date deployed over R1bn in funding in 4 years. He joined as one of the 1st employees and today employs over 30 young professional South Africans who are breaking the status quo and finding world-class solutions to SMME funding, especially for empowered entities in the government and tender finance space. Sourcefin’s focus is on bringing tech-driven finance to the forgotten SMMEs of SA and offers a profit share model as opposed to traditional interest and allows its clients to tap into its extensive supplier database to achieve effective results for its end users. In May 2023, Sourcefin became the City of Johannesburg’s official funding partner and collaborator for SMMEs and Opportunity Centers across the country. To date, Sourcefin has a 100% track record of service delivery.
Through various collaborations, Joshua has ensured that over 1000 SMMEs (predominantly BEE Level 1) have received finance to achieve their goals and deliver on their promise. Joshua has personally spoken at COJ Opportunity Centres to assist entrepreneurs in understanding their funding options and the available routes for them to seek assistance on their deals.
“I am a proud King David Linksfield (KDL) alumnus, having joined in Nursery School and graduating through to Grade 12 (matric). It’s especially meaningful to me that my daughter is in the KDL Nursery School, becoming the third-generation Kadish to be part of this incredible institution.
Looking back, it’s clear that KDL was more than just a school — it was a foundation. It didn’t simply educate me; it shaped how I think, how I lead, and how I show up in the world.
What made KDL so impactful wasn’t just the academics or the community — though both were exceptional. It was the way the school encouraged critical thinking, personal responsibility, and a deep sense of purpose. The Jewish values woven into our education weren’t just lessons — they were lived, every day.
A teacher who had a particularly profound impact on me was Lorraine Srage, my matric History teacher (it’s no surprise that she's since become an exceptional Principal). I hadn’t initially planned to take History in Matric, but a few months before finals, I met with her to ask if I could join her class. She believed in my potential and, while cautious, encouraged me to take it up. She then went above and beyond, offering extra tuition to ensure I was fully prepared for the final exams. Thanks to her dedication and belief in me, I not only passed the subject — I earned a distinction.
It’s a moment I’ll never forget — not just because of the academic result, but because of the confidence it instilled in me. That experience also gave me a skill set that proved invaluable during my time at Law School”.
