Dr Maurice Goodman matriculated from King David Linksfield in 1977. After obtaining his medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, Maurice worked for a number of years in emergency medicine and trauma surgery. He was a member of the South African team on a number of international rescue missions.
After completing his MBA, Maurice joined Discovery Health shortly after its inception and is currently its Chief Medical Officer. Discovery Health is the leading healthcare funder in South Africa, with over 3.3 million beneficiaries and a market share of over 40% of the South African medical scheme market.
Maurice is a Trustee of the Discovery Foundation, which is investing in excess of R300 million in the training of medical specialists in South Africa in identified areas of need. He has also been instrumental in developing Discovery’s Medical Student Loan Guarantee Fund which assists medical students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Maurice is President of the Convocation Exco of the University of the Witwatersrand and also serves on the Council of this University. He serves on the Executive Committees of the Wits Business School Association and the Medical Advisors Group and is a Counsellor on the SA Medical Association South Gauteng Branch.
Maurice is also very involved in South African Jewish religious and communal affairs and will always be immensely grateful for the great years spent within the King David School system. This system continues to provide generations of South African Jews with a well-balanced education, enabling Davidians to excel in their chosen fields, most importantly, always strongly grounded in deep Jewish belief, morals and values.
